"MOBA" stands for "Multiplayer Online Battle Arena". it means there's a bunch of players at once, controlling a single character, and there's strategy involved in that there's enemies to kill.

that's... about it. even MOBA players don't have a strict definition of the word. i'm convinced the only people who act like MOBAs are their own super speshul genre that need an acronym definition hang out on kotaku or forbes and try to make video games seem more complex than they actually are.

"has MOBA elements" is a stupid phrase. any game can "have MOBA elements" if you squint. both OW and BB are multiplayer first-person-shooters, battleborn just has more of a landscape to traverse and includes enemies to kill.

that's it.

that's the huge difference that warrants internet arguments.

that's the acronym that has such a broad definition that people are calling overwatch a MOBA.
