i haven't been in this thread yet but been following and i think why people are so ... annoyed, i guess? (i don't think they're as angry as you're making them out to be but they are very upset) with how this player handled it is because nothing like this really happens here so it's kind of a shock. we had some really, really awful mods early last year who didn't care about the game one bit until they finally dumped it on some new people. since then the new team has been running a really tight ship and have been a total 180 in terms of modding, which means a lot of the players are pretty happy with our mods since we had such abysmal ones before.
so, i think people are just upset over such a tantrum being thrown when a) the player hasn't been active ever in their time here and was basically squatting anyway, b) the player isn't being very nice and that sort of hostility isn't common among the playerbase and c) the mods didn't do anything wrong, the player did. if there's a defensiveness it's because the current mod team doesn't deserve this kind of vitriol over something they didn't do when they've done so much for the game already. like, the game was hanging on by a thread and the previous mods would disappears for months at a time. that's how bad it got and that's how different it is now. for any players that held on through that train wreck, someone coming in and yelling about the current mods being so awful and terrible and etc because of a mistake they made, it's not going to make them friends.
that said, what i'm interested in is if merry shared any of the mods pms or if she just changed it around using her own words? i want to see what they said in their reply to her other than no to cause her to get so upset. i could expect a bad reply from the old team (they once put up a mod notice that basically blamed the players for not being able to tag the npcs) but not really from the new one.
tl;dr itt old players might be getting defensive over mods bc the old mods were shitty as hell. could've just been shrugged off if she didn't go into other plurks to talk shit about the current ones so now people are upset.
also i'm not trying to shit on merry more, i'm just trying to explain why people might be getting defensive over someone shitting on the mods. the whole problem's pretty dumb overall and should've just blown over but here we are.
