i'm neither of those anons but as someone who's been in that position, it's easier to say that than... do it. idk. it seems a little dickish and awkward no matter what your intentions are. you don't need to repeat "nobody owns a character" or anything because we're all aware of that. it just seems like an etiquette thing, mostly for uncommon characters.
