¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

One week was daytime hours, but it was three weeks for nighttime hours because you had to log your characters going through each individual room and hallway as they explored. you couldn't handwave your way to a destination unless it was a simple location the character had already passed through a bunch of times.

You also generally weren't allowed to backtag a night too far if your time ran out, so if you didn't get to wherever you were aiming to go at the end of the three weeks, your character just blacked out and woke up in their room again.

As a result, you really, really wanted to team up with someone with a similar tagging schedule, because otherwise the one-to-two tags per day would get you maybe three rooms away from the dormitories before the time was up.

That's so bizarre. I wonder why everyone thought it was the Best Game Ever and saw being in it as some sort of status symbol. Didn't it takes months to get a verdict on your app, too, in some cases? Or apps only opened at really ridiculous times for a really short period.

I can't speak for anybody else, but the turnaround on my application was literally one day. I still have the emails for this: sent my app on the 10th, got an acceptance back on the 11th. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I had a lot of fun there the entire time I was there, and I wish I hadn't had to drop it at all (RL), but yeah the pacing was really vastly different from any other game before or since.

the pacing was bizarre, but it really worked for the game somehow once you started playing. don't think it'd work for today's rp crowd but it worked well for that setting.

my experience was like the above anon, only took me a week at the longest for one of my apps because the mods were unfamiliar and needed a second opinion. turnaround on the others was a few days.

loved that game. it was really different but the mods made it work and the players overall were awesome.

As another old Damned player, you really had to have been there to understand why it worked. It's still one of the best games I've ever been in, and aside from a few crazies the player base was fantastic.

it sort of worked. even back then, there were people getting frustrated with the pacing. i remember plenty of "that's ooc" arguments because, on an ic scale, characters just didn't have time to reach the level of development for some of the things they were doing in-game

of course on one hand i can respect that, but on the other, what the fuck are you supposed to do when you've been playing in a game for MONTHS, but icly the character has only been there a few days?

it was different, it was interesting, and it was fun most of the time, but damn were there problems. that's any game, tho

i think apps got worse as time went on. i didn't have a problem in the early days, then i left and when i tried to come back later it took them over 3 months to get back to me on an app. by that time i wasn't interested anymore.
