Am I the only one seeing a problem less with the 'tone' of the game now, and more with some the playerbase? I don't see much beyond those people talking about 'the tone' and not doing much to help.

first of all i want to tell you that you sound like an amazing friend and i'm so happy this person has someone with this kind of patience in their life

that said, just keep asking. make it clear there's no pressure, but keep asking even if they say no or back out every time. especially if they're being treated right now, as treatment takes hold they'll probably eventually be able to take the next step without you doing anything special. just be there when they do :)

like honestly if i say that aggressively enough they shut up, which is my goal, and i don't think i owe them anything further. if they do persist i might throw some technical explanations at them ("no, scientific studies proved that exercise does not actually cure depression, that belief was based on a general link between exercise and endorphins. *long explanation with long scary brain chemical names*" "no, i know what my trigger foods are and i don't eat them. that just reduces my symptoms, it's never going to eliminate them. *long history lesson on IBS treatments*" etc. they usually walk away or try to change the subject before i get more than a couple of sentences into the long bit.)

i've explained spoon theory to a lot of people and they tend to retain the information well and understand when i mention spoons

if i'm left with big questions after reading the info page, that's a bad sign. (questions about small details or my specific situation is a different thing, i expect to have those.) alternatively, if i have to read more than two pages (maybe 3 if i hit up rules but honestly when are rules not all the same) before i can start thinking on a character, that's also a bad sign. it means that either the mods can't organize their shit or their concept is way too complicated. you should be able to cover everything in setting and faq.

also, make sure everything is consistent (dates for apping/reserving, names of important npcs, info given on different pages). this also means that i don't want to be able to tell which mod answered a question on the FAQ (unless they're signed or something). a mod team that all talks differently just makes you seem sloppy and disorganized (probably because at least one of you will talk in a stupid and unprofessional way and while i realize this is a hobby, come on. recognize what people expect if you choose to be an organizer)

also a personal pet peeve, make sure that everything works on all site skins. lots of people use a dark skin, so when you code your text as black and don't code the background as white, a bunch of us can't read it without highlighting which is an annoyance and a turn-off because it's both unnecessary (why does your text need to be set to black instead of left as default? there's no coding reason for this) and so easily fixed. i've seen the reverse happen too.

as for graphics, i don't really care. make sure they're not obnoxiously ugly and make sure you're set to show entries in the site skin, but otherwise it's not necessarily going to put me off if you're using a default layout.

there was another link provided where there was a story about a roadie and young girls. the roadie got in shit for sending the girls to bowie. that's an actual recounting from an actual thing and not hearsay and rumor mongering. i'll take that over 'well, i don't have proof, but he's totally a pedophile rapist'

i think what they're trying to say is that they made such a huge deal in the first episode of how much of a douche he is and how he misuses his powers, but then threw in some character development with the flashback dump in the episode right after that which might've forced him to rethink his attitude in general? i guess they're saying it feels like they rushed in some character development way too early before we could see more of the protag being a dick.

granted, there's only three episodes out with the third one not really showing if there's been any drastic attitude changes since the previous episode. obviously, he's not going to stay up all night thinking up ways to run over girls with trucks.

i'd probably wait at least until a 2-3 episodes come out at most before judging whether or not they magically did away with yu's douche side via backstory dump.

my thoughts and feelings on the matter are pretty complex, anon. the fact that the one girl he can be linked to doesn't see it as anything other than consensual says a lot to me. if she were saying that when it happened, i'd question it, but this is a grown-ass woman who has had several decades to reflect on her life experiences. gonna be real here, i personally find it kind of hard hold someone currently accountable for a HEINOUS CRIME that happened 40+ years ago when the "victim" doesn't see herself as a victim.
