I feel your pain, anon. If your castmate's good it can be worth it to get the great threads, even though they're slow, but not getting to the new events because you don't know where your character is emotionally is a bummer.

There are a couple of ways to deal with this. #1 is the old standby of "communicate with your castmate and work out how threads will end when you start them," which lets you continue tagging around while you work on the thread. #2 -- and one that I use more often, because I often play volatile characters whose reactions are hard to predict and I don't like retconning -- is to pick up another character or two in the game. Keep threading with your castmate at their pace, and keep up with the new events with your other character(s).

#3 is to join a game with a bigger ic:ooc ratio so you have more ooc time to finish your ic interactions, but that's only relevant if you're looking for a game with said slower-tagging castmate, not if you're already in one.
