tbh part of this is because the mangaka is young and fairly amateurish both in terms of art and writing, especially early on in the story. you can tell it's his first manga. the anime improved the art and actually fixed some of the writing. for example, in the manga, the entire training corps sequence is presented as a flashback AFTER trost, which makes very little sense from a narrative standpoint.
it's a good story but some aspects of it could stand to be rewritten and i wish the anime had done more.
