Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

just dropped comments onto some memes and it's my first time actually trying to rp in over a year. i'm so stupidly nervous!

But never two in a row.

fuck.

some days i am just astounded by how profoundly awful most of the people in this hobby are.

even beyond how pointlessly virulent and masturbatory people are on these terrible anon memes its just like

so many players are fucking ridiculously awful at ever being interesting or committing to anything or exploring their games or CR in any way

and so many mods are just completely fucking opposed to any fun having that isn't people just passively standing around to applaud their lackluster metaplots

I love this hobby in theory, and everything about the way the games themselves are set up if great and there's nowhere else you can do it that way really, but so many of the people are just a complete waste of time.

Have fun, anon! I wish you long threads and much joy!

Question: in a game, is it ok to constantly tag out and never make your own posts? I've been trying this in my new game and so far I love it. I get to choose who I do and don't want to tag, and how many threads I have at once so I don't get overwhelmed. But I just wanted to know if it's bad etiquette or anything.

someone should just set up a new comm (lovehotels isn't taken) and have it look differently, perhaps more true to actual love hotels, and maybe more on an incentive basis. aus encouraged so sex doesn't have to depend on aphros, idk. a change so it isn't just a carbon copy, or maybe a whole new idea entirely. an entire dr set in a red light district might be fun.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-02 07:16 am (UTC)(link)
sometimes people will wish that they could tag you if you haven't got around to tagging them, so i guess it's nice to at least do it sometimes, but ultimately i think this is the preferred method.

I'm an obscure lone canon warrior and I'm not making a big effort to get involved OOC, so I doubt anyone would seek me out. But that is a good point nonetheless and I should do a post every once in a while just in case. Thanks!

I could get behind a sort of small town/small city setting. with maybe some buildings creating drastically different settings.

whoops posting in my sleep again

no seriously i get what you mean. like i love to roleplay and have for years but most people are just... terrible at it (or to be around) and their terribleness makes it unfun

it's an accessible hobby that draws in all kinds but i wish journal rp in particular wasn't in such a creative stranglehold due to people without any talent whatsoever (and who are also completely unwilling to put in the work to be more interesting, engaging, and so on) being the majority

(Anonymous) 2014-01-02 07:52 am (UTC)(link)
I like doing this too, for exactly the reasons you just described. That, and coming up with a post with a really good, general hook is a lot of work depending on the character.

when i first saw beauty is in the eye of the beholder or whatever, i was watching it with a friend on vhs tape and we were like 10? she hid her face and told me to tell her how scary it was and when she took it off i was like "oh no she's beautiful" but when she looked up it was to the "normal" pig faced people and called me a liar and i was like NO I DIDN'T KNOW LOOK LOOK SHE'S PRETTY good memories

talky tina though. christ.

to serve man was on when i posted this. TO SERVE MAN...IT'S A COOKBOOK!

(Anonymous) 2014-01-02 07:55 am (UTC)(link)
basically!

though I would far prefer people who are less talented who would actually put in the fucking effort as opposed to the loads of people who can write very well but spent all their time making plurks about how unmotivated they are and lamenting how doing anything cool requires actually being proactive in the slightest.

the terribleness makes it so very unfun which sucks because this hobby CAN be so fucking great when people aren't such huge wieners.

(Anonymous) 2014-01-02 07:55 am (UTC)(link)
nothing in particular had to, really. just sitting back and looking at my last few years of DW RP experience is enough, really.

+1

some of my favorite people ever to play with don't have the best grammar or spelling, but they're enthusiastic and creative and proactive and all around fun to rp with.

give me people like them over amazing writers who never play any day.

i'm a bit new to the game myself but I wanted to say how very friendly people are! It's a easy paced game with a large enough amount of characters around that getting CR has been easy. Join a crew! I can't tell you how much this is important. If you want to be active and post a lot you have to join a crew that is active. Look around for how tags a lot. Size doesn't always matter. I notice some crews are slower then others no matter the size, where others are very small and tag out everywhere. Take your time picking if you need to, and interact with those people in the crew you are interested in to get in. After that, branch out to other people as well.

I noticed however that the people who grow close to their crew first do better in the game. They stay close but then branch out and it's really very nice. Like a mini game combined with a bigger game.

This is what i've seen is all. Honestly, i love the people I am RPing with and things just feel like they are getting better as time goes on.

Events are opt in for the most part (if you want to change your character you can, or you don't have to. it's great). And frequent enough to be fun but not often enough to beat you in the head with. there is room to breath.

Find a character that you really enjoy playing. This is interaction heavy gaming. You need to work WITH others in a team/crew. So make sure it's someone you can either break down into a team player, or someone you know you can play as a problem child and you enjoy it.

I'm really in love with this game right now. It's been the best choice for me in a while.

yeah, if i'm 100% honest the plurk whiners are the ones i hate the most. i get feeling burnt out by exactly the sort of thing we're talking about and it's hard to stay motivated when everyone around you is dragging their feet or putting their heads in the sand, but shit or get off the pot.

oh god this is a huge long shot but

looking for a pb of a white male, clean shaven, late 30s- late 40's, with really pale or white hair. glasses are a huge bonus. might be able to squeak by with someone younger as long as they don't have a babyface.

absolutely no to anderson cooper though because i cannot mentally un-associate him from cnn.

yeah, that would sound pretty good! i don't think making it a jamjar would do it much good, though. it could be like any other place in the world, where you can come and go, but it's connected to a whole bunch of worlds magically or whatever. like traverse town in the kh universe. it's a haven you can go to, but it has this atmosphere that draws you in, some characters staying because they like it so much?
