every final fantasy game is so different from the others that it's really better to pick something more to your tastes than just pick what everyone else is playing

e.g., above anon thinks ff13 is garbage, but i personally loved it bc i'm more into characters and i don't mind linear gameplay.

Episodes 7 and 8 definitely are, and you can watch those without watching the rest. The second half of it wasn't too bad for the most part, but still doesn't hold up to atla at all.

1-6 were pretty awful.

Malkus Iverwelling, currently played at Haven. The character is extremely well rounded with an interesting backstory, and every tag they do has a clear/distinct character voice which gives hooks and is often laugh out loud funny.

Margot (I can't remember if she had a surname), who used to be played at Mayfield. It was the same deal, I loved the thought and characterisation put into the tags.

Both of these characters, but especially Malkus, were/are written to a standard/more interesting than I could ever achieve with canon characters.

it really really was. it was viewed as the paragon for good vidya storytelling for a long time, and "eyes on me" was the single most imported vidya song in the history of forever until kingdom hearts came out.

then ff9 came out and everyone forgot about 8 and realized in hindsight that the game was absolute shit to begin with.
