The last thing you knew, you were going about your business as usual - or perhaps you weren't; either way, it was still the life you knew. The one you were used to, that probably didn't involve waking up on hard concrete with the smell of urban decay filling your world.
The city has clearly been abandoned for a few years; yet, as you step into the street, you can hear something moving between the crumbling buildings, threading its way through the rubble.
You are not alone. You are not safe.
Welcome to Montauk-1 Allende-18, a panfandom, plot- and exploration-driven survival horror game set in the abandoned remains of 1978 Seattle, Washington. Something about this city, in this time, in this world, has turned it into a sinkhole in multiversal spacetime; any being that falls through a tenuous patch in their own reality is likely to end up here, and that doesn't just mean sapient, relatively humanlike entities from worlds with internally consistent physical laws. The bottom fell out of the non-Euclidean planes of reality first, flooding the city with improbable, hostile entities that have only thrived here - and whose descendants would rather eat you than each other.
The city is surrounded by an impassable barrier, keeping both the monsters and you in - though, that may be pure coincidence, as there seems to be nothing left of the world beyond it, either. Any broadcasts that might be picked up by what little electronic equipment still functions in the city could well be from a different universe entirely, as there's dead air on even the NORAD frequencies. However, there are two distinct cohorts of human-seeming entities within the city, whose presence and appearance might provide some clues to what happened here before characters began arriving.
One group wears gas masks, jumpsuits, Cold War military surplus, decorated with strange symbols; the weapons they carry are largely improvised. The other group - better equipped, always eerily silent - favors black BDUs, SWAT-style helmets with mirrored visors that make it impossible to see their faces (if, indeed, they have them) and American assault rifles - usually, the M16, but a few of them carry M14s. Both groups are hostile.
You are not alone. Nowhere is safe. All you can do is keep moving.
