Luceti is the biggest one still around I think. Unless Route still uses the journal-based system, I'm not sure how many else there are.
I prefer the journal based games personally. Mods usually keep the list of add-remove consistently updated so you don't have to pay much attention yourself. There's only one list of things to follow (the Flist, as opposed to a log and network comm) and most people who post network things include an action option in the same post. I know some games discourage this, so it's all network or all log, which is probably why so many people have grown to hate networks in games.
