I tried to watch this and had to stop halfway through the first season. The characters were all assholes, even the ones the show was trying to railroad you into sympathizing with. Not to mention the extreme unfortunate implications that whole "my adoptive mother doesn't love me, only my biological mother can ever be my real mom!" subplot they keep bashing you over the head with in the first few episodes.
Frankly, the series would have been way more meaningful and interesting if they'd dropped the fantasy world element and just made a show about a sad little boy who's developed an elaborate delusion about the town and the people around him... But from what I've seen, the writers of that show have the subtlety of a sled-hammer to the face, so I doubt they could have pulled it off.
