aside from the shitty acting and diarrhea of the mouth that happens in scripts when they have to draw out dialogue in English to match the animation and everything else that’s horrible about English anime dubs

what an English anime dub says to me is, “fuck you and your language and culture, I’m making this safe for white people consumption”. no, subtitles aren’t 100% accurate (dubtitles are the absolute worst) but I am at least hearing the original POC actors’ work, the original cues and quirks of the characters

even in cases where the content isn’t bowdlerized and they stay true to the original story and characters?

I don’t knock people who watch dubs because they have issues reading subtitles and keeping up, it’s very much an acquired skill and some folks can’t manage it for whatever reason and that’s fine

but I seriously side-eye the fuck out of people who go on about how dubs are superior because 9 times out of 10 there is some racist as fuck reasoning behind it (“I don’t like how the Japanese voices sound”)

This is especially hilarious when... I forget what show it was, but I distinctly remember the director of some anime saying he preferred the dub over the original Japanese. Cowboy Bebop, maybe?

It's like a weeaboo discovered the SJW movement, and they found new fodder to flame people for liking dubs. Because, it sounds like everything a hardcore fans says when they prefer subs over dubs.
