Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

Political topics are still banned. Report threads and I'll delete them (eventually).

Political Intrigue Games?

(Anonymous) 2016-12-10 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Is there actually any game that is heavily plot-driven and political anywhere? I haven't seen anything like that for awhile now and I've bored of all these Slice-of-Life games.

I really want to make a game that features more of a heavy plot but how does one begin? I don't want to take from an already established canon like some games have done in the past.

I know Undergrounds is supposed to have a political intrigue element, ditto Enervation, but I'm only aware of them rather than an active participant.

I love talking about political set ups though, anon! Do you have any kind of a world build in mind, or a general concept you'd like to explore? It's good to be vague and open and then narrow stuff down when you're starting out.

(Also, for intrigue, you do need to be careful about how you set stuff up because it can easily make for accusations of favoritism and players being info hogs etc. But other anons might have advice on how to avoid those pitfalls.)

Undergrounds is really political.

i've been missing plot-heavy games for over a year now please make this an actual thing. i'll even help listmod, if it will just get the ball rolling.

this is going to be controversial, and i'm sure a lot of anons will disagree with me VEHEMENTLY, but honestly a game i thought did very well with heavy plot (until it really emphatically didn't) was cdc. everything tied into a larger story, everything was significant, and even the stumbles the mods made there can be looked at more as learning points for new mods rather than as proof of a failed concept, imo. that's the kind of plot heavy game i'd like to see again, if hopefully with a more chill playerbase and more communicative mods. i'll help with anything i can to get that kind of game into the dwrp world again.

(Anonymous) 2016-12-12 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
i miss that aspect of cdc a lot.

(Anonymous) 2016-12-12 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Completely agree. It's no surprise that CDC failed, but i think it's one of the few games to pull off big plot well.

(Anonymous) 2016-12-14 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
i'll polish your shoes with my tongue to help you make another game as plot-heavy as cdc

(Anonymous) 2016-12-14 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Ok but what actual plot did CDC have? All I ever saw people talk about was NPC drama, rovermates and not having threaded enough with some cat things to keep them or something.

Mask or Menace has a heavy amount of in-game politics dealing with the Cold War, the place of superheroes, and IC elections

I really liked the premise of that empire/politics/rebels game. I'd play in something like that in a heartbeat.

I want a smut-based dressing room that takes prompts from the kinks you want to play threads and loosely conglomerates them into themed monthly memes. It would probably get wanked into the sun but I see a lot of similar posts over time, and people missing one another like ships passing in the night.

Also, there are a ton that I'd love to utilize but often feel like a full-on PSL would be a little too much, you know?

I really want to put together an AU in a western/diesel punk setting. I want it to feel a lot like Trigun, mixed with Mad Max and Borderlands. I was thinking I would like it to be set on a small, backwater planet that basically no one notices or really cares about because it's mostly a wasteland. It's also hard to get off of due to the extremely limited amount of resources, most of which were used up years ago by the inhabitants of the planet.

I would like it to have a few main points of interest as far as towns/cities are concerned (no more than 3). Possibly the other cities at war with one another over resources with some outliers that really don't care or are looking to play both sides.

I know DWRP isn't huge on AUs in general so I really want to gauge interest and see what other people think.

Fuck this sounds amazing. Would it be more plot-driven or sandboxy?

I am so excited for this idea that I would drop a game to make time for it if I had to. This is everything I want right now in RP.

I'd go in for this. is this a must-au game or are is it a jamjar? would you allow OCs?

memory-wipe/recovery idea

(Anonymous) 2016-12-17 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Throwing this idea out there cause it's something I've been thinking about recently and wanted to gauge interest.

I'd say it's loosely based on dollhouse, but I haven't actually seen the show. It just takes a few aspects from it anyway. It's sort of like a multi-dimensional dollhouse idea though.

The basic premise is that characters are woken up in a facility that seems to be largely abandoned. They wake up with vague memories of the world they'd just come from (aka their canon), but no idea of how they ended up where they are. For all intents and purposes, it's kind of like a jamjar game at first. The usual "your character is abducted and trapped in a mysterious setting etc etc".

But shortly after being woken up, characters will discover that the facility has been attacked, and people are slowly being "woken" in a similar fashion to them. They'll have to uncover the truth behind the "dollhouse" (though it'll be named something else) and decide whether to help free others from their programming or whether they simply want to plug themselves back in and forget about everything that's happened.

There'll be a resistance-type movement involved with it all too who are the ones behind the attack, who will want to attempt to recruit others to their cause.

Regarding the multi-dimensional part, characters would have been sent in to worlds with a specific mission in mind (whether that's causing a certain event in canon or discovering some kind of information from canon, that will come up in the app). This means that details such as abilities and non-human features would remain (within limits. No 100ft tall mechs etc. Things like that would be scaled down to suit the game world.)

So...in other words, yes, it's still a jamjar. With aspects of horror, mystery, and of course, memory loss and recovery.

Let me know what you guys think? Is this even worth considering as anything more than a musebox idea?

Angel Beats

(Anonymous) 2016-12-24 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
As I rewatch Angel Beats, I almost want to round up a handful of other mods and do short games with the Angel Beats setting and premise in mind (obviously not during the holidays, probably not until February honestly)

But the basic premise would be that people would app characters that have died (canon or otherwise) and would have to explain one or two things that would help them "pass on" in gameplay (and have apps screened so it could surprise other players), and have everyone deal with existing in limbo. I've never played in the dangan ronpa game, but I think a similar setup would work really well with limited character slots and a short timeframe to RP.

Sort of a loose idea I think, though, I'm only 4 episodes into my rewatch of the series and I have no idea if anybody's even watched the show in like five years. I might tool around with this a few times as I slowly start remembering everything that isn't the finale, hahah.

i've never seen this, but it sounds really neat! i'd love to play in a short-term game with a hook like that.

So long story short, I'm working on an AU Danganronpa-themed murder game. I've got quite a bit done thus far in the way of pages and I'm doing a bit of story planning, but I need someone or some someones to help me out when it comes to planning, lists, NPCs and whatnot. If you're interested, just comment here or send me a PM, if you don't mind.

Frieden - A Political & Romance AU Game

[personal profile] magitarians 2016-12-28 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Just prefacing this by saying the original idea was not mine, I borrowed from the owner and added a few tweaks.

So I've been working on an AU (19th century fantasy Europe) game idea for awhile now and I think I'm ready to release it to the public for critique! You can check this journal for full details, but tl;dr it's a blend of political intrigue and romance set in an autocratic empire with lots of room for both war and shippy/smutty shenanigans. I've got the major parts outlined though I'm still working on the world and NPC info to make everything feel complete.

I'm just wondering what else you guys would like to see, if anything's unclear, etc. This as much your game as it is mine and I'm going to be relying on players a lot throughout the course of it, so any feedback at all would be helpful! Let me know what you think.

(Anonymous) 2016-12-28 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I personally like the fantasy europe setting so it's a plus for me. Don't have much time for another game currently, but I'm definitely eyeing this game!
