okay anons. some of us are looking to make a sex game, but we want to know what kind would survive in this climate of 'waiting to see how the first app round goes' or the same old stuff that happens when new games pop up. full disclosure is that part of the aim here is basically eventually forcing the characters to have sex. not sure if it'll go fuck or die or aphrodisiac yet. we're looking for kinks and more of a ~dark~ nature rather than fluffy consent where nothing bad happens.

so let's hear your opinions and suggestions.

Don't know how it might work (jamjar, au, or what) but maybe a game based on a part of the film's "got to catch all the beasts" element, which gives a lot of event possibilities and a pretty large bestiary.

GAME IDEAS

(Anonymous) 2016-11-19 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
Fuck it. Reposting this in the right place this time. I'm interested in adding a new game to the world of DWRP and I'd like to make something there's actually a need and want for in the community. I'd love it if you could take a moment to answer a few questions (as many or few as you want) and help test the waters for where the interest is right now.

What sort of mechanics either in or missing from current games draw your attention most, or turn you off a game?
What kind of genres/themes would you like to see or have you enjoyed?
What style of AC do you think has the best impact/balance for keeping interest and activity?
What are deal breakers for you? Something that makes it so you absolutely will not join a game if it's an aspect of it.
What kind of game world would you like to see?
Do you like mixed elements or would you prefer to see focus on a narrow set of genres?
When it comes to plot style/density, do you prefer a lot of plots or a scattering?
Do you like "___ of the Month" style plots, main storyline plots, or a mix of both?
Do you have any interest in either AU or Memory loss games?
When it comes to the size of the in game world, do you look for a restricted small area, a relatively closed off but larger area, an open world characters can explore, a facility/ship/building characters are confined to or some other style of world?

If you have time to offer your thoughts on any of these it would be appreciated. I have also been looking at the survey from a while back, but any further input and thoughts are helpful.

Salty Afterschool Nightmare Anon Here!

Series had so much interesting potential, but ending butchers it, but I wanna take the basic premise and apply it to a game, trying to see how feasible it is:

Premise: Everyone attends a mysterious class where you go to sleep and have a shared lucid dream. Everyone's appearance changes base on their quirks and/or issues.

Canon examples includes a manipulative paraplegic ex-model becoming a siren, a person who spends all his time living up to others expectations is an empty suit of armor, and a character with severe trauma is stuck as her five year old self from when that trauma happened, and each form has an ability of some sort (the Giraffe-guy can see who everyone is, another character can attach herself to others, etc.), and the goal of the lucid dream is to collect keys to unlock the door at the end of the dream, and this is done by "Killing" others in the dream until one of them reveals the key hidden in them.

Now to translate into Game-ness! This will obviously be a small game with two sections: a waking world SOL/mystery section where everyone tries to figure out the reason behind the dream, the real identities of other dreamers, while the Dream world has a set theme (a trapped, haunted castle, a flooded school, etc.), and the dreamers explore the dreamscape, try to puzzle out why they're in the form they're in, trying to think of more things to make it interesting.

Apps are handled two fold: A regular, unscreened app, and then a screened one where accepted players put in their dream-version of characters including what dream-power they may possess, what the dream-avatar looks like, their ability, and the reason behind both and players can make a separate account for the dream-avatars, this is probably more involved than most players may want, but I think it might be a fun idea.

This could be easily twisted into a murdergame, but I don't want to step on Parasomniac's toes.

Re: GAME IDEAS

(Anonymous) 2016-11-19 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
so I've got an idea for a Dragon Ball game based on the premise of the Xenoverse games.

Your character is brought to Conton City by the Supreme Kai of Time because the actions of the Time Breakers have gotten too out of hand and the Time Patrollers need greater numbers. Upon being brought into Conton City new players are given a "Super Soul" which roughly aligns them with the playable classes from the games:

- Earthlings are "balanced" warriors and can generally adapt to, but not excel, in any given discipline of fighting. Second lowest overall attack power. Can gain specializations in technology, city development, and magic outside of martial arts, giving them the most opportunities due to being the weakest class physically.
- Saiyans have the lowest health but highest overall battle strength, with recovering from an injury allowing them to make substantial progress in whatever advancement they're pursuing (note, may need a limitation to keep this from being abused). Saiyans cannot pursue fields outside of martial arts due to the Time Patrol's crisis leading to an edict to for each class to focus on overall strength - in other words, you sacrifice basic jobs in exchange for having the easiest time making big explosions.
- Namekians have lower attack power than humans, but higher overall health and stamina. Can also gain advancement in non-martial arts related skills like magic, and also have regenerative abilities and the ability to pursue fields in developing Conton City (based on Namekians' rustic lifestyle in the series).
- Majin get their higher stamina and shape shifting/stretching powers, but lowest endurance and speed of all the races. Can also learn magic outside of martial arts like Namekians.
- Frieza Race/Changelings are the fastest characters and can develop at least one transformation before getting their super form, allowing them to get a boost over other characters before they get their super form. Like humans they can specialize in technology, but not magic or city development.

Each class gets their super form from XV2 (flying nimbus + power pole for earthlings, great namekian for namekians, golden for changelings, "pure form" for Majin, and of course super saiyan) after a certain point.

all classes would be able to learn all techniques, but certain schools of combat would be easier for some classes to advance in (for instance, humans could master techniques involving weaponry faster than other classes) while others would need to work longer. Alternate pursuits like magic, technology, or city development would allow for players to make quality of life improvements for themselves, master healing of allies in battle, or find ways to grow the city like being a farmer or contractor.

There'd be mission based events, based on the Dragon Ball canon and its side stories, and the story cues would mostly focus on what was introduced regarding the Time Breakers in the Xenoverse games, but drawing on the other video games or side stories like the movies or Heroes would be doable as well. You have a whole franchise to play with.

Perhaps actual Dragon Ball characters should be regulated to NPCs, but given we're dealing with alternate time lines, you have an out if you wanted to allow them in.

Anyway that's my idea. I could never run a game myself but I've had this idea for several weeks now and I figured I'd throw it out there in case someone thought they could make it could work.

This is more of a game idea question in regards to navigation.

I remember older games having wikis. I'm curious to know how many would be fine playing in a game that has all the game information offsite instead of DW pages (that you can easily access via links), while still keeping the game on DW.

Clicking on the taken list would wake you to the taken wiki webpage, there would be a back button to take you back to dreamwidth and so on. Would that interest you or would you refuse to play in that game outright?

Would love to see a game that's in a fantasy/sci-fi/steampunk/what have you setting...and only characters without any superpowers can be apped. No, you cannot have your powers completely nerfed. Only average joe characters allowed!

Each month they can gain a power (with more cons than pros when used) and wacky flavor of the month things happen, blah blah blah. I just want stupid and funny hijinks to play out but still have room for serious things. Maybe the background would be the character wishing for power, etc and it goes toward the whole BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR cliche, including some genie who likes to dress up as a lawyer.

This is only me rambling though.

Re: GAME IDEAS

(Anonymous) 2016-11-28 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
I'm thinking of making a game set in the Black Mirror universe (at a very loose point in the timeline; I'd be taking all sorts of concepts from different episodes, too).

Nosedive would be the biggest inspiration, with an IC rating system being implemented. As part of the activity check, you'd have to turn in star ratings that your character would give to other characters. They would be screened (and there would also be balances to make sure characters with lower star ratings are also fun to play if you want to go the be-a-jerk route), though I feel like this might still cause some drama.

Other episodes would be incorporated as well, such as Playtest and San Junipero (which would allow for some wilder events and player plots without breaking the setting), and the Cookies and "blocking" feature from White Christmas. The game would likely be capped at around 50 characters total with each player being allowed a maximum of 2 characters.

I'm torn on whether it should be jamjar, AU, or memloss/partial AU like STE was. I will most likely allow native OCs no matter which option I go with.

Is there any mythical creature folklore-based games out there? Colorful fantasy setting with characters as half folklore-creatures OR human? I guess kind of like Ryslig but without a horror aspect.

Fantasy resistance game

(Anonymous) 2016-11-29 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
Inspired by a wide array of sources (and ironically only a handful are fantasy).

The pitch: the setting was a fantasy series of some sort. For the sake of this post, there may be areas that are more advanced w/magic or magitech, but otherwise it's pretty grounded. Somewhere in between Berserk and Escaflowne is how it feels in my head.

Granted, you also have your Standard Evil, Scientifically Advanced Superpower and other Standard Evil Factions, but in a weird way there's still a sense of stability in the world. There is still periodic wars, but also lasting peace to go along with it. Life, for the most part, is good. Not for everyone at the same time, but sooner or later things will be looking up for anyone and everyone in this setting.

And then suddenly aliens show up, with forces that just utterly annihilate all but the most powerful of kingdoms in a cross between Independence Day and XCOM. Even that Evil Superpower mentioned before has to abandon the vast majority of its territories to consolidate its resources, and ironically it's the faction in the best shape to take in refugees.

Before long, most of the world is under alien control. The Evil Superpower is still hanging on albeit barely, and other groups have resorted to guerilla tactics as best as they can.

And where are the players in all of this? New conscripts for the once-Evil Superpower, assigned to dangerous and at times borderline suicidal missions too risky for them to commit their regular standing forces to. What will their role be in saving their world? That's up to them to decide.

Not sure if it would be pure OCs, or allow for AU-ified canon characters, or even just go for a hodge-podge world for extra clusterfuck fun. Probably not viable in DWRP either, but had the idea and wanted to get it written down.

MOANA

(Anonymous) 2016-12-01 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
Obviously not based directly on the movie, but heavily inspired by, I'm interested in creating a game that is exploration-based, in which characters are dropped on an island and have to make a life for themselves there, while occasionally dealing with the wrath of Polynesian gods.

I'm hoping to do something similar to the mechanics of Snowblind, in which you're given a starting point and a general idea of the surroundings, but the rest you discover as the game advances. You can search areas and find tools and places to hide/sleep/etc, and eventually perhaps even build small boats to expand to other islands nearby if the game takes off and grows sufficiently.

Would this be interesting to anyone? More importantly, would anyone be willing to (RELIABLY) co-mod a game like this?

hey guys. ive been kicking around ideas and since ive recently come into a more relaxed job i can handle modding something. i have a plot and setting, which i happen to like a lot and hope would go over well, but there's one thing im undecided on.

do you guys wanna see another gen game or a sex game? thinking hard on it, i can have it go either way. a sex element would be really easy to incorporate and would have the options of both having sex as a way to have power regains (in a sense) as well as elements that encourage your less outgoing characters to have sex if they aren't normally inclined to do so (aphrodisiacs, etc). which would still give them those power regains, or possibly something plot related. it wouldn't be a chips or fuck or die setting!

but i could see it being really fun as a gen game too. so idk. thoughts?

living up to my game's general concept, huh.

Anyway, hello again, y'all. For those who don't remember, back in the days when STE was mid-crash and burn, I set out to try and make a sort of game in the same vein of STE - a non-jamjar AU game. That probably would have worked out, had I not promptly gotten a rather severe illness that pretty much put me out of commission for a month and kept me off RP for about a year after that as I tried to work off the time I'd lost.

I've been having the concept still bug me and I have most of the metaplot still written, so I'm really mostly posting as an interest check and a rules revisory.

To give a quick game info blurb: The stated goal for the game was a player-driven Lovecraftian fantasy game. The major hook is that characters are all reincarnations from past lives, without any inkling of their past - but through the touch of... something Lovecraftian in nature, they're reminded of their past life, and gain a new power: the ability to pierce the 'veil' of normalcy and see through illusions. This power, unfortunately, exposes some of the less ideal monstrosities, hidden from the world by only a thin layer of illusion.

And as the plot unfolds, there come invaders from another world, unveiling of what lies beneath the surface of the town they've all come to live in, and investigation as to not only what's going on, but why it's all happened to begin with.

I do have an actual planned ending for this game, so it'd be more of an intended experience rather than a "go on forever" game.

I was thinking of starting it off slow, however, and so I was wondering: from a player perspective, if you're interested in this game, what parts of an app would you consider incredibly important, what kind of AC do you most prefer, and how best do you like to see games go slow - do you prefer warping the day schedule, having low AC, and taking apps on a sent basis, or something else?

And even if you don't particularly have anything to add - feel free to comment anyway to let me know you're interested. I'm probably going to decide if I want to work at this game more based on interest.
