first off, transgendered (just the "ed" part) can be taken as demeaning among the trans community. ymmv on this, but it is something that people who are trans try to correct. It sounds as if we were forced into becoming trans.

Good show of maturity, anon. I gave them a few links because I didn't feel like going over my own personal experience at the time. But, you know, that was just me obviously shitting over your dysphoria. Grow the fuck up and ignore the post if it offended you so much. Give the anon who asked an idea of your own life.

Speaking as someone who plays a MTF character, I cannot stress enough that you need to research, research, research. It's an extremely sensitive topic, and even though it may never come up in play, it's always good to have knowledge at your fingertips. And that knowledge can come in handy when it comes to the smaller details such as body language, clothing choice, etc.

Additionally, if you're playing them from any era other than modern day, I'd suggest seeing what you can find about gender and sexuality views of the time period, and the region if possible. You can't expect someone from the 1930s to be as casual about the topic if it ever comes up as someone from the modern day, and they might not even refer to it as the same thing.

Anon also jumping in to say you should definitely do your research, because sometimes you might be surprised! For example, the turn of the century was more progressive/open than post-WWII in a lot of everyday life situations, it's not a steady progress from really oppressed > gradually less oppressed > modern day.

Not everyone knows what trans man/trans woman mean, anon. Someone who's not familiar with trans people is probably going to think "trans woman? So is that like a woman who's trans (and wants to be male) or... what?"

A few of my friends didn't know the difference at first when I came out to them and they felt like assholes for asking what parts I have, since that was pretty much the simplest way that I could explain to them

DA, and I agree with you, but I also feel like it's not being unnecessarily harsh to say that if OP is still at the stage of learning where they're saying "female-identifying male" they at least might want to wait a while before picking up a trans* character?

Like, yeah, they shouldn't just give up forever because they are a horrible transphobe omg. But they do still seem to be in a fairly early learning stage, so they might want to put their plans to pick up this trans* woman on hold for a while until they're more comfortable in their knowledge.

But yeah, OP, research. A lot. Look up a lot of different trans* spaces and what they have to say, because even trans* people are going to disagree about things! If the trans* woman you're thinking of playing is a canon character, also pay attention to what she's like and how they act in canon, of course. If she's an OC, make sure she's not just A Trans Woman; she obviously needs to be more than a gimmick.

And if you have more specific questions, or if you don't mind telling us what canon character you're talking about (if she is one), just ask! We can probably give better advice than just a general "how do you play a trans woman?" question will get you.
